Management Flight Simulators

Management Flight Simulators are the game programs mainly based on System Dynamics principles to train managers to experience and deal with circumstances mimicing the real world. The management flight simulators help managers to learn better decision making in an environment which allows making mistakes and mistakes are costless. The best known of this simulators is People Express Management Simulator developted by MIT. I have recently started to develop a Management Flight Simulator for Project Managers making decisons in multiproject environements. I will keep here posted when the development completes.

Isnt it like training pilots to fly in a stimulator? do u think that it is ever the same as in the real world? I mean when the managers use these things, they know they are non-consequential but they will have a different mentality when it is real? (ps: thanks for visiting :) )

Yeah, it is very similar to the pilot flight simulators. But obviously it is not as good as flight simulators to exactly mimic the real world situation. Pilot simulators are based on the physical parameters and facts while in a management system there are human beings which are very difficult to model. In every system which there is a human element the behaviour of the system is difficult to simulate and predict. However, with the importance of training managers for better decision making and the lack of sufficient learning tools and methods, a simulator which the managers can practice decision making and see the consequence of their decision is veyr helpful. Obviously today management simulators are far away from being perfect but future works can contribute a lot in this respect.

I guess the biggest advantage/benefit is that such a stimulator helps managers to gain more confidence rather than situation-based decision making skills, right? I dont know, just some thoughts. Bcos as u said, stimulators cant imitate/predict human behaviour, hence, any system-created behaviour does not guarantee it happening the same way as in the real situation. However, managers may become more comfortable making deicions and deal with the consequences?S

You are right. To learn how to make decision in more situation-based circumstances( as you refer) probably methods like teaching case study should be used. Management Flight simulator are good to for indicate some of the the quantitative consequences of management decisons. Obviously it is very difficult to bring all real life complexities into a single model and there is no choice other than developing models which are a bit abstract from reality.
